Choosing and caring for Orchids
Overwatering is the phalaenopsis orchid's worst enemy. Instead of watering from the top, stand the pot in water for 10 minutes once a week and let it drain well; when the roots turn silver-grey it is time to water, if they are green, wait. Direct sun burns the leaves while darkness drops the flowers — a bright north- or east-facing window is ideal. After the blooms fall, cutting the stem above the second node encourages a new spike.
