Choosing and caring for Sunflowers
Sunflowers are the thirstiest cut flower; the vase can lose half its water overnight. Choose a deep vase with a heavy base — the large heads tip light vases over. The stems are thick and hairy, so cut them at an angle with a sharp knife; scissors crush the stem. If the heads start to droop, shortening the stems by a few centimetres straightens them again.
